When we first opened our doors in 2015, we had a small budget and a BIG plan to get people fit. We bought ONLY what we knew worked. That meant rowing machines, barbells, medicine balls and a pullup rig. We had zero dollars for advertising back then, and we are forever thankful for our founding members who took a chance on the new kid in town. We got people VERY fit, and we made a lot of noise (much to the annoyance of the neighborhood next to us :-). Our first members started telling their friends.
Six years in, and we are going strong. A lot has changed, but a lot has stayed the same. We are about to move for the third time, into a much larger space. Know what we are buying to put in there? MORE of the same things we opened with. You won’t see shiny machines, mirrors, or people waiting in line to get on the treadmills. Instead, you’ll see people doing squats, deadlifts and pushups. LOTS of them. Because that’s what works.
Most traditional gyms sell comfort and not necessarily results. Like that really popular gym chain that sells memberships for $10 and provides pizza. They are banking on you NOT showing up to workout and charging you so little that you don’t cancel your membership. In fact, if even half of their members showed up in one day, they could not handle the volume.
Truly fit people know you don’t need all those things. You need more work. And that work needs to feel hard (that’s where your coach comes in).
Almost everyone who comes to our gym has tried other, traditional gyms and felt like they were not getting anywhere. They had been looking for the cheaper option ($10 memberships?) or those shiny machines. But when they decided they were not finding success on their own, they went looking for something different. And they found a coach.
These days, our equipment hasn’t changed at all (but my coaching has improved exponentially 🙂 Our members are still doing burpees, snatches, and squats. And smiling. And getting VERY fit.
Our gym looks like a lot of space with an adult jungle gym in the middle. Because you need space if you are going to move a lot. And if you want to get fit, THATS what you do. We have everything you need. Nothing you don’t.
